WPP, the world’s largest marketing communications group, brought together seven of its agencies—previously spread across three different Auckland CBD locations—into a single purpose-built space. The goal was ambitious: to create “WPP House,” a new workplace that fostered collaboration, efficiency, and a unified identity across multiple agencies. Cachet played a central role from the outset, beginning with detailed accommodation analysis. This early work included test fits for five potential buildings and helped align competing requirements through a thorough functional and aspirational briefing process.
The selected site accommodated 120 staff across two levels. A key challenge was achieving strong visual and physical connection between the levels—solved through careful spatial planning, including the use of interconnecting stairs and dedicated lifts. The design strategy revolved around a unifying idea: the creation of a ‘hospitality heart.’ Recognising that many client relationships and internal collaborations already happened informally—around coffee or casual meetings—Cachet developed welcoming, bar-style breakout and gathering areas that served as the social and functional centre of the space.
Another major consideration was shared technology. With multiple businesses operating from the same tenancy, it was essential that shared spaces were flexible, fully equipped, and seamless to use. Cachet collaborated with external technology partners to deliver an integrated solution, coordinating both the infrastructure and hardware to enable mobile working and real-time collaboration across teams and locations.
