A large-scale, inclusive workspace that brings Spark’s connected and culturally rich vision to life.

Project Overview

After a decade at Spark City, Spark New Zealand set out to unite its workforce under one roof, fostering collaboration, efficiency, and cultural cohesion. Inspired by Spark’s tagline, Hello Tomorrow, the design mission statement emerged: Creating a destination to empower people to connect. Cachet Group brought Spark’s vision to life by creating a connected, inclusive and culturally integrated workplace.

The journey through the building unfolds with each floor reflecting the three baskets of knowledge, introducing a distinct theme and colour on each level. However, overall, Spark embraced a minimalist and modern approach, allowing the design and cultural narrative to reflect their Te Korowai Tupu (Māori Strategy) through patterns, motifs and colours thoughtfully weaved into acoustic panelling, glazing, wayfinding, and room names, creating a deeply personal connection. The ‘Tāniko’ symbolises the baskets of ancestral knowledge that weave together of perspectives, priorities, ideas and stories that bind us together.

The materials selected for the arrival space evoke a warm and inviting atmosphere, featuring rich timber tones, earthy accents, and a harmonious colour palette that fosters a sense of connection for both staff and customers. In the open workspace, carefully selected materials combine durability with contemporary design, ensuring long-term performance that supports Spark’s evolving needs.

Innovation and creativity are woven throughout the design, with every element thoughtfully contributing to Spark’s vision. The interconnecting staircase, adorned with cultural motifs, serves as both a functional link and a symbolic connector between floors. The layout, designed to break the building’s conventional form, promotes fluidity and collaboration across the space. Each floor is designed as a collaborative hub, with technology seamlessly integrated through “plug and play” systems that allow for effortless connections in meeting rooms and workstations. Occupancy sensors further improve energy efficiency by activating lighting only in areas that are in use.
