Cachet Group was engaged to design Microsoft’s Melbourne office across three levels at Freshwater Place. Building on our experience delivering Microsoft projects across the region, we brought a strong understanding of the organisation’s needs and the Microsoft Workplace Advantage Global Design Guidelines (WPA). The brief required working within an existing workspace and structure, which led us to focus on strategic design moves that could create maximum impact.
One key insight shaped the direction: the office’s proximity to the Yarra River was underutilised, with its views largely hidden from the workspace. This prompted a broader interpretation of the river—not just as a view, but as a source of inspiration. From its shifting reflections to the varied textures of the riverbank, the design concept draws on Melbourne’s multi-dimensional character. Geometric shapes, natural patterns, and rich materiality echo the complexity of the city, reintroducing Melbourne’s diversity and depth into Microsoft’s workplace.
