BASF, a global leader in chemical manufacturing, partnered with Cachet to transform their Melbourne headquarters into an extraordinary environment centred around their people—a space that would reflect BASF’s unique culture, values, and forward-looking vision. From the outset, the goal was clear: create a functional yet inspiring space that truly resonated with BASF’s dedication to inclusivity, innovation, and well-being.

Through a series of collaborative workshops with local leadership, Cachet crafted a design brief grounded in three essential pillars—Purpose, People, and Place. Guided by these pillars, Cachet developed a thoughtful layout that integrated BASF’s priorities: ample meeting spaces, expanded zones for team collaboration, and inclusive features to support a diverse workforce of 120.

Strategic spatial planning was essential in working around the building’s unusual core. Carefully positioned meeting rooms, collaborative areas, and workspaces create a seamless flow, while a breakout area takes advantage of Melbourne’s stunning views, doubling as a flexible space for town halls and gatherings. Designed for longevity, the space incorporates moveable furniture and durable materials, ensuring adaptability for the future.

At the heart of this project was BASF’s commitment to inclusivity and a deep connection to Country, brought to life through the integration of Indigenous patterns and inspiration drawn from the local Yarra flora along the nearby riverbank. The design concept incorporated earthy tones from this landscape, seamlessly woven into finishes, colour schemes, and fabrics. This approach honoured the land’s cultural and natural heritage while fostering a strong sense of place and connection for BASF Melbourne.

Grounded in Purpose, People, and Place, the new headquarters embodies BASF’s values. Its understated elegance celebrates the people who bring this workplace to life, creating a setting where their team can innovate, collaborate, and thrive.
